Bexley Bass Student Spotlight: Diego
Diego is 12 years old and in the 6th grade. He’s been taking upright bass and bass guitar lessons for a year now! Diego chose upright bass because he wanted to play an instrument in his school orchestra, and now he really likes it! He’s also been inspired by bands like Nirvana and Weezer to learn the electric bass guitar. Diego’s favorite thing about playing music is the satisfaction that comes from learning a whole song or getting that really hard part down just right! His favorite musical experience was his last orchestra concert in 5th grade, and his goal is to be able to write his own music. His favorite food is cucumbers, and his favorite place to go in Bexley is Johnson’s Ice Cream. He loves Social Studies, and his favorite games to play are “Uno” and “Show ‘Em No Mercy.” If Diego could meet someone famous, he would choose Tyler Okonma (Tyler, the Creator). Thanks for being our Student Spotlight, Diego!

Our teachers are versed in tons of different styles of guitar—from acoustic guitar or electric guitar to classical, jazz, funk, and flamenco. You name it, we’ll create bespoke lessons that teach it to you.
A: For piano students, an acoustic piano is desirable, though not required. A keyboard with weighted keys is also acceptable.
A: For ukulele and guitar students, a high quality instrument, not a toy, is necessary for high quality lessons.
The optimal age for starting beginner upright bass lessons generally falls between 4 and 7 years old, though you can learn at any age. At this stage, children usually have the necessary fine motor skills and the attention span needed for effectively learning the upright bass. That being said, anyone, including retirees, can learn to play the upright bass!
