Musical Life Podcast Episode 11: Speech Therapist Interview: Renee Sheline
In this episode of *Musical Life*, Julie Chambers from Chambers Music Studio sits down with Renee Sheline, a speech-language pathologist with a unique background in anthropology and linguistics. Renee shares insights into her work with young children, particularly those with speech delays, and discusses how music plays an integral role in her therapeutic practices. Despite not being musically inclined as a child, Renee explains how she uses routines and simple musical activities, like singing and rhythmic games, to support language development in her young clients. The conversation also delves into the importance of parent involvement, the use of live versus recorded music in therapy, and the neurological connections between music and language. Renee offers practical advice for parents, encouraging them to sing with their children without worrying about how they sound, highlighting the value of music in both speech development and strengthening parent-child bonds. This episode is a must-listen for parents, educators, and anyone interested in the intersection of music and speech therapy.
