Student Spotlight: Harper Petsch

Student Spotlight: Harper Petsch

Harper Petsch, Student Spotlight at Chambers Music Studio

We’re excited to spotlight Harper Petsch, an 11-year-old fifth grader and student at Chambers Music Studio!

Harper started taking guitar lessons when she was nine years old because she wanted to learn how to play songs by Taylor Swift. She asked for a guitar for Christmas, and as Harper puts it, her musical “era” started right after.

Taylor Swift was the musician who first inspired Harper to want to make music herself, but over time, Harper’s love of music has grown beyond simply learning her favorite songs. She now enjoys being able to hear the notes within a song and understand more of what is happening musically.

Guitar, Violin, and Making Music

Guitar is Harper’s favorite instrument, and she is also learning to play the violin at school.

One of Harper’s favorite things about music is the chance to create. She loves composing music, singing along to songs, and playing with the ensemble.

Music has also given Harper opportunities to perform and share what she has learned. Some of her favorite musical memories are playing at concerts in front of her friends and family.

For Harper, performing is not just about playing the right notes. It is also a chance to share the music she has worked on with the people who are there to support her.

Harper's Musical Goal

Harper has a very specific goal she is working toward right now: getting through her guitar book with Saffron.

Working through a full book takes consistency, patience, and a willingness to keep building on the skills learned along the way. Harper’s goal gives her something clear to work toward while continuing to grow as a guitarist.

Inspired by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift played a big role in Harper’s decision to begin music lessons, and she is still the musician Harper would most like to meet.

What started as wanting to learn Taylor Swift songs has grown into Harper developing her own musicianship through guitar, violin, composing, singing, ensemble playing, and performance.

That is one of the exciting things about learning music: sometimes one favorite artist or one favorite song is all it takes to begin a much bigger musical journey.

Get to Know Harper

Outside of music, Harper’s favorite subject in school is art, and she enjoys playing basketball.

Her favorite food is ramen with miso and eggs, and her favorite place to visit is Florida.

Whether she is learning a new song on guitar, composing music, performing with an ensemble, or learning violin at school, Harper continues to find new ways to enjoy music and challenge herself.

We’re excited to celebrate Harper Petsch and all the creativity, progress, and enthusiasm she brings to her musical journey.

Congratulations, Harper!
