Student of the Month April: Mason Phinney

We’re excited to celebrate Mason Phinney as this month’s Student of the Month! Mason is 11 years old and in 6th grade, and she has been part of our music community since she was just 5 years old.

Mason’s favorite instrument to play is the piano, but her musical talents don’t stop there. She also loves to sing and writes her own original songs. In fact, she not only writes her music, she learns the piano parts to the songs she works on in lessons so she can accompany herself while singing. That level of initiative and creativity is something truly special. Mason has a beautiful voice and a natural ability to express herself through music.

When asked what she enjoys most about playing music, Mason shared something that perfectly captures her spirit as a musician: “It’s an open space to freely express yourself.” That creativity and independence shine in everything she does.

Outside of music, Mason enjoys English Language Arts, loves Chicken Alfredo, and dreams of visiting Ireland one day. She also enjoys playing Uno and would love to meet Tate McRae, one of her favorite artists.
