Columbus Guitar Teacher Spotlight: Saffron Hairston

We’re thrilled to celebrate Saffron Hairston as our Teacher of the Month!

Saffron grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and their love for music began early. One of their first memories of songwriting was on their grandma’s old, well-loved guitar, writing a song about a brand new box of 64 crayons. From that moment on, they never stopped creating.

Their favorite instrument to play is guitar, with drums coming in as a very close second. While they love both, some of their most unforgettable moments as a musician happen behind the drum kit. There’s nothing quite like the energy of performing a drum solo and “shaking the walls with a crazy fill” an experience that simply can’t be beat (no pun intended).

Saffron feels most inspired by finding beauty in the world around them, whether that’s their partner, the natural world, or other forms of art. That appreciation for beauty and connection shines through in their performances, especially when they play their song “August,” one of their favorites because it’s both meaningful and just plain fun.

Outside of music, Saffron enjoys wandering through antique malls (they describe it as “a shopping trip and a museum trip wrapped into one”), playing Pokémon, and painting or drawing. They hope to learn the cello someday, calling it one of the most beautiful sounds they’ve ever heard. They’d also love to learn saxophone and continue growing on piano.

What Saffron enjoys most about teaching is seeing that “aha” moment , when a student’s eyes light up and something finally clicks. Being able to share that spark of excitement and help students discover their own love for music is what makes teaching so fulfilling for them.

What instruments do you offer?

We offer a variety of different instruments! You can check which instrument specifically via our lessons page.

How are students placed with a teacher?

Students are placed with a teacher via the Placement form. You will fill out a series of questions pretaining to personality and learning styles, and we use that information to match you with a teacher that bests fit you or your child’s needs and ambitions.

Do you offer beginner lessons?

Yes! At Chambers, we work with all skill levels, everything from beginner to expert.

Do you offer lessons for kids and adults?

Yes! We welcome all students regardless of age or skill level. We offer private lessons, but we also have age specific courses designed for early childhood development, we also have ensemble and group classes that are designed for children and adolescents.
