Student of the Month January: Leah Hughes

This month, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on Leah Hughes, our Student of the Month! Leah is 9 years old, in 3rd grade, and attends St. Catharine School. She has been a wonderful part of our music community, and we’re excited to share more about her musical journey and interests.

Leah began taking music lessons back in kindergarten, inspired by the beautiful sounds of the piano she heard at her grandma and grandpa’s house. Since then, the piano has become her favorite instrument, and she loves learning new songs and discovering how to read music notes. Leah says it’s “cool” to learn how music works, and her enthusiasm truly shows in her playing.
One of Leah’s favorite memories as a musician is her very first recital last summer—a big milestone and an exciting moment she’s proud of. Looking ahead, she has set a goal for herself to learn how to play “The Entertainer,” a classic piece that perfectly matches her growing skills and confidence.

Outside of music, Leah has many interests that make her who she is. Her favorite subject in school is math, and when it comes to food, she says it’s a tough choice, but pizza is definitely a top favorite! One of her favorite places to go is her family’s house at Indian Lake, where she loves swimming in the summer and spending time with relatives.

In her free time, Leah enjoys playing the game Sorry with family and friends. If she could meet any famous person, she would love to meet Ariana Grande from Wicked
