Bexley Guitar Teacher Spotlight: Kevin Stokes
This month, we’re proud to recognize Kevin Stokes as our Teacher of the Month!
Originally from New Martinsville, West Virginia, Kevin discovered his passion for music at the age of 13 after performing “Good Riddance” at his church camp’s talent show. That experience sparked a love for music that has continued to shape his life, leading him to become both a performer and a dedicated music educator.
Kevin’s favorite instrument to play is the guitar, and even after years of performing and teaching, he still considers himself a lifelong student. He’s always working to improve his guitar skills and has recently focused on becoming an even stronger bass guitarist, especially on the fretless bass. His commitment to continual growth reflects the same mindset he encourages in his students every day.
When it comes to inspiration, Kevin credits his parents, whose support and encouragement helped shape both the musician and teacher he is today. His favorite song to perform is “Satisfied Mind,” inspired by Jeff Buckley’s heartfelt interpretation, a performance that showcases the emotion and storytelling he loves to bring to music.
One of Kevin’s most memorable experiences as a musician happened when he was just 19 years old while performing in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. After closing his set with Bruce Springsteen’s “Reason to Believe,” a stranger approached him and shared something he has never forgotten: “I wanted to thank you for playing that last song, because I hadn’t smiled in two weeks until I heard you.” Moments like that serve as a powerful reminder of music’s ability to comfort, encourage, and connect people in meaningful ways.
Outside of music, Kevin enjoys weightlifting and spending time exploring the mountains of his home state of West Virginia.
What Kevin loves most about teaching is the opportunity to have the same kind of positive impact on his students that his own teachers and mentors had on him. He believes great music education extends beyond learning notes and technique—it’s about encouraging confidence, perseverance, and a lifelong love of learning.
We are incredibly grateful for Kevin’s passion, kindness, and dedication to helping students grow as musicians and individuals. His thoughtful approach to teaching and genuine care for each student make him a valued part of the Chambers Music Studio family.
Congratulations, Kevin, on being our Teacher of the Month! 🎸✨
